Amit makes final Idol round

SHILLONG: Shillong's latest heartthrob Amit Paul is just one step away from being crowned as Indian Idol 3 as he made the final round of the popular reality show on Sony Entertainment TV on Saturday.

Right from politicians to actors, students to layman, people from all walks of life in the Northeast and other parts of the country are rooting for the Shillong singing sensation to make him the next Indian Idol.

After Friday's gala, Amit received the highest number of votes, further brightening his prospects for the coveted title. While Amit's close rival Prashant Tamang of Darjeeling trailed him, another contested Emon Chatterjee of Kolkata was voted out of the high-profile musical contest.

Braving incessant rains, Shillongites thronged PCOs of various localities in the city to vote for the Megalaya's 'Brand Ambassador of Peace and Communal Harmony' till early hours of Satruday.

Giant hoardings and posters of Amit's photographs have sprung up across Meghalaya urging people to vote for him.

Another youth from the North-East 29-year old Debojit Saha of Assam had earlier won Zee TV's "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005" to become the "The Voice of India."
