'I feel like a winner' Amit Paul
Many hearts were broken when the Indian Idol results were declared and Amit Paul lost to Prashant Tamang. Children ran up to the stage, crying, when he lost.
But Amit has no tears. He says he already feels like a winner because of the support he received.

It was a very big day for Prashant and me. I am happy that he won Indian Idol. I did feel sad; I won't lie. The time, effort and pressure we faced, and then to lose in the end... is sad.
But I don't think I'm a loser. I feel like a winner. I have got so much love and affection from so many people in India and the world. I would like to thank all of them. It is because of them that I don't feel like a loser. They are the ones who have brought me to this stage. Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine this would happen to me.
'I went from one city to another pleading to music composers to give me a chance'
I see a good future now. People of my country love me, and I will not let them down. I promise that I will sing better.
I am from Shillong but my house is in Siliguri, West Bengal. My father is a businessman and my mother a housewife. My sister is still studying aur main apne ghar ka nalayak bachcha hoon (I'm the good-for-nothing boy of my family). I never studied. I did my first year of my Bachelors degree in Science only, and then dropped out.
I have not taken any formal training in singing. Whatever I know is all thanks to Indian Idol.
I have loved singing since childhood. It was my dream to become a playback singer. I have worked hard to get here and have seen some very bad days. I went from one city to another pleading to music composers to give me a chance by just listening to my song. I went to Assam, Meghalaya and even Mumbai.
But today, Indian Idol gave me a platform and exposure. I am really happy about everything.
'I was nervous about participating'
I have been following Indian Idol religiously right from the first season. I thought of auditioning for the second season but missed the chance because I did not know when the auditions were held.
Plus, I was very nervous about participating.
But I thought I would give it a try (the third time). When I went for the auditions, there were so many participants that I got nervous again! But God only knows how amongst so many good singers I got selected.
'Shillong crowd was unbelievable'
My mother tongue is Bengali. But I don't find it difficult to sing in Hindi or for that matter, any other language. When I try to speak in another language, I do have a problem pronouncing thw words.
The one thing I will never forget is the time I went to Shillong (after I gained recognition in Indian Idol). The crowd waiting for me was unbelievable! I never dreamt that I would get so much love and respect from my own people.
I am the ambassador of peace and harmony, and I'm very thrilled. I plan to meet each and every person when I go home.
