State Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh told UNI here today, ''We have decided to welcome Amit in a befitting manner for placing Shillong on the musical map of the world.'' Amit Paul was edged out by Prashant Tamang from nearby Darjeeling in the grand finale of the popular reality show on Sony Entertainment Television.

Earlier, the State Government conferred on him the title of Meghalaya's Brand Ambassador to foster ''peace, communal harmony, and excellence''.

Meghalaya Governor Banwari Lal Joshi and Chief Minister D D Lapang had appealed to the people to vote for Amit and make him the Indian Idol-3.

Besides Amit, the state government also invited Sony Entertainment TV to be a part of the function.

A reception committee, headed by Mr Lyngdoh as chairman, was also constituted to organise the programme.

State Tourism Minister Charles Pyngrope and BJP legislator Al Hek were the co-chairpersons of the committee and senior government official D P Wahlang was the secretary.

Meanwhile, the Civil Society Women's Organisation (CSWO) has stressed on the need of ordering a CBI inquiry into the alleged last minute change of Indial Idol 3 results.

In a statement issued here, the CSWO alleged that there was some last minute political interference from certain quarters, which changed the course of the finals.

The CSWO also flayed Sony Entertainment TV for trying to squeeze out whatever ''a small state like ours could shell out by holding the longest voting days.''
